After a pretty traumatic life of being treated as nothing more than ‘an appliance for a team’, or a dangerous weapon that can be discarded and abandoned by its human associates, Murderbot is not too comfortable with feelings, affection and emotions. As a sentient killing machine Murderbot is having difficulties in expressing its emotions and prefers to keep this aspect private. So, when its human associates (never friends) are captured and another not-friend from its past requires urgent assistance, Murderbot must choose between inertia and drastic action. What follows is a story about the issue of personhood, interpersonal relations and friendship.
