Let's Discuss Captain Pantoja and the Special Service
In this light-hearted, short farce by Mario Vargas Llosa, we learn that prim and proper Captain Pantoja is to be sent to Peru's Amazon frontier on a secret mission for the army to provide females for amorous recruits. Side-splitting complications arise as word of Captain Pantoja's remarkable achievements start to spread.
Vargas Llosa, who passed away last year, is the author of some of the last half-century's most important novels, including The War at the End of the World, The Feast of the Goat, and Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter. In Protected content was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The English translation was done by Gregory Kolovakis and Ronald Christ, who have translated several important works by Latin American writers.
