It is an uncomfortable thing to admit, but according to statistics, very few of us are totally without prejudice in one form or another.

It can be difficult to determine whether someone feels prejudiced against another person - not only are we good at masking our true feelings, we may not even be aware that they are making associations between "good" and "bad", "black" and "white", "gay" and "straight", and so on.

Our guest speaker is Aria Arai, a black American living in Finland, who teaches about black American history and is the CEO of the NGO Earthangels of Finland.

Ms Arai,In the way to the airport travelling to Greece, will share with us her experiences with unconscious biases, micro aggressions, and blatant hate speech. Who decides what is beautiful? Why is bigotry not considered a world crises? Who benefits from systemic biases in place on a societal level? How can this be dismantled?
She will speak on her history and the history of her family, some who were so light skinned that they passed for white. She has a daughter who has not told that she is black because she says it always causes her problems in the workplace. There is a preconceived notion that Black women in general are aggressive and angry according to her.

Welcome all!
