Based on a story written by Federico Fellini and Tullio Pinelli, about which very little was previously known, this film brings an undiscovered tale to life.
In the immediate aftermath of World War II, amid the ruins of a Naples devastated by poverty, young Carmine and Celestina struggle to survive, relying on each other for support. One night, they stow away on a ship bound for New York, hoping to join Celestina’s sister, who had emigrated there years earlier.
The two children join the many Italian emigrants seeking a better future in America and arrive in an unfamiliar metropolis. After countless adventures and hardships, they gradually come to regard the city as their new home.
