Perception of space – whether it is physical, digital, topological, quantum, or hyper – requires particular kinds of interactive and cognitive processes through which we become aware of the relative positions of objects around us. Our techno-aesthetic inquiries into how we make sense of spaces focus on revealing numerous meanings of this awareness from the intersection of post-digital architecture, neuroscience, technology, and machine learning. In this lecture, Artist will discuss how audio-visual, immersive, and interactive media arts help us overcome the limitations of perspectival representation and play a crucial role in the symbiotic relationship between perception and imagination.

Istanbul native Refik Anadol is a media artist, director and pioneer in the aesthetics of machine intelligence. His body of work puts creativity at the intersection of humans and machines. Using data as his primary material, he creates site-specific sculptures, live audio/visual performances and immersive installations that encourage us to rethink our engagement with the physical world, its temporal and spatial dimensions and the creative potential of machines.
