Discussion of Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov
Heart of a Dog tells the story of a stray dog named Sharik who is found by a surgeon and undergoes extensive surgery for experimental purposes to create a New Soviet man, someone committed to the ideals of communism in the Soviet Union. A key work of early modernism, this is a superbly comic story. Attempting a medical first, the surgeon transplants the glands of a petty criminal into the dog and, with that, turns a distinctly worryingly human animal loose on the city Protected content . The book has been translated into many languages from the original Russian.
