Jamie will share insights from her research on bicultural adolescents in South Africa, revealing how language preferences influence cultural values and personal identity. Linking these findings to emerging research on the cognitive and emotional power of language, explore how our choice of words impacts the way we see the world, the role of vocabulary in supporting or limiting emotional regulation skills, as well as how multilingualism could be used as a life hack for coping with challenging events. Jamie Brassell brings a wealth of experience and expertise in education and psychology. She began her career in Protected content a kindergarten teacher in Cape Town, South Africa, before taking on roles as an educational therapist, language teacher, and multilingual play therapist for children at various institutions from Protected content . From Protected content 2023, she worked at the German International School in Cape Town, where she supported students in their social-emotional development and well-being. Since Protected content , she worked as a counsellor at the Leipzig International School. With qualifications in Education, Psychology, Sociology, and Linguistics, Jamie combines professional knowledge with a deep commitment to nurturing and empowering young people.
