Exotica Erotica Etc, A Film by Evangelia Kranioti
From the event's page:
The deck of a cargo ship at night, pounded by the waves while a woman's voice sings of the love of sailors. She remembers past loves. As the cargo ship sails, a man in turn, in Greek, recounts the infinite dream of the sea… Over the course of twelve voyages, visual artist and filmmaker Evangelia Kranioti embarks on a profound anthropological exploration of sailors' romantic lives, offering a deep reflection on desire and wandering.
Exotica, Erotica, Etc. is a love letter to the forgotten, hidden, and overlooked men and women whose long sojourns, perilous travels, and bouts of loneliness are paradoxically essential for our societies to function. This film is featured as part of our Love is Louder exhibition, which explores the many facets of love, its tensions, and its various forms.
Evangelia Kranioti was born in Athens and currently residing in France. Her work spans photography, video, and writing. In addition to a degree in cinema from Le Fresnoy, she holds degrees in law and visual arts. Exotica, Erotica, Etc. has been selected for several international festivals. Her second film, Obscuro Barroco Protected content , won the TEDDY Jury Prize in Berlin, among numerous other awards. In Protected content , her solo exhibition The Living, the Dead and Those at Sea at Les Rencontres d’Arles was honored with the Madame Figaro Women in Motion Prize.
