WHO I AM, WHO WE ARE by M'barek Bouhchichi

L'Atelier 21 gallery is pleased to announce the third solo exhibition of visual artist M’barek Bouhchichi. Entitled Who I am, who we are, the exhibition will run from May 27 to July 5, Protected content .
Through a series of powerful portraits created directly on sheets of rubber, M’barek Bouhchichi continues an exploration where art, memory, and politics intertwine to give rise to a new visual order. Far from a merely illustrative approach, his painting becomes a space of symbolic resistance, where bodies reappear as bearers of long-marginalized histories.
His work explores the representation of the Black body in Moroccan society through a plastic and symbolic investigation of the fragmented body: hands, faces, and imprints become fragments of invisibilized identities. Through this fragmentation, the artist interrogates notions of identity, difference, otherness, and the gaze cast upon the Black body, weaving connections between art, literature, poetry, and music.
M'barek Bouhchichi's works are part of major public and private collections, including, among others, the National Museum of Modern Art at Centre Georges Pompidou (France), the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Morocco), the Helga de Alvear Contemporary Art Museum (Spain), the CALOSA Foundation (Mexico), the American Friends of the Arts in North Africa Foundation (USA), the Museum of African Contemporary
