Youth ,Memory and the City
In our InterNations Thessaloniki book and film club with the help of our friend expat from Paris Cecilou and On the occassion of (the controversial) Brigitte Bardot's death and the release of the film ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ท๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐จ๐ถ๐ฆ last fall we will explore themes of youth, memory, and existential questioning with stories set in the beautiful city of Paris.
Book of the cycle:
๐๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐งรฉ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฐ๐ด๐ต ๐ ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต๐ฉ - Patrick Modiano: A quiet, haunting novel, in which a group of drifting voices circle around a mysterious young woman, capturing the fragility of youth, memory, and disappearance in postwar Paris.
Movies of the cycle:
1) ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ต๐ฉ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ด๐ด - Jean-Luc Godard: Godardโs iconic New Wave film captures the exhilaration and emptiness of youth through improvised dialogue, fractured style, and a Paris lived moment to moment.
2) ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ด ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ๐ด ๐ต๐ฐ ๐๐ด - Jacques Rivette: A young woman drifts through an uneasy Paris, where art, politics, and personal relationships intertwine, revealing a city haunted by uncertainty, paranoia, and disappearance.
3) ๐๐ญรฉ๐ฐ ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ 5 ๐ต๐ฐ 7: Over ninety minutes in Paris, a womanโs fear gives way to attention, as the city becomes a mirror of her inner life.
