Setting Personal Boundaries at Life and Work
Do you feel as if you were living your life according to others’ expectations? Or that you’re carrying a bag of issues that isn’t really yours?
If your answer is yes, it’s time to talk and set some healthy personal boundaries.
As children, we are taught that being kind to others was a virtue; we grew up paying special attention to the positive feedback we received for being nice and pleasing others. We derived much of our self-worth from putting the feelings and needs of other people well above our own.
Now we are beyond our 30s, even our 40s perhaps and this is what’s happening to us:
We can’t understand why our co-workers dumped extra work on us; why our family constantly intrude on our personal space; and why we experience difficulties in our relationships.
Boundaries are the limits we set with other people regarding what we find acceptable and unacceptable in their behaviour towards us. The ability to know our boundaries often comes from a healthy sense of self-worth.
