Dear fellow hikers,

now that this amazing summer eventually cools down a bit, I'm keen to get out into the Odenwald soon, and have picked Sunday Sept 9th for a hike all along the Neckar which I did 4 years ago.

The trail with many scenic views will take us from Neckargerach to Eberbach passing the Minneburg and Stolzeneck castle ruins and is sure to be a pretty late summer hike.

The length (16km) means this requires some stamina, but as there isn't much steep uphill, it should be manageable for most hikers. With breaks, I expect it will take us around 5 and a half hours to complete the hike. At the end, if somebody fancies we can try to find a nice pub/cafe for a post-hike coffee/beer/hot chocolate.

The weather forecast currently looks good for the weekend.

This is NOT a round walk, we'll start at Neckargerach and end at Eberbach. The two villages are connected by the S-bahn. If you're driving, I'd suggest parking in Eberbach and getting the S-bahn train from there. There is a train that departs from Eberbach towards Neckargerach at 10:29; the same train those of us coming from Heidelberg will be taking. We'll be in the last carriage and may have enough job tickets for everyone (including drivers) to travel for free and - if not - the onboard ticket machine is normally in this carriage. If you're running late you can of course do the Eberbach-Neckargerach train trip after the hike.

Feel free to make a post, should you possess a jobticket or a car, and you are happy to take some folks with you.

What to bring: weather appropriate attire, water, lunch (there will be nowhere to pick anything up on the way - we'll have a picknick at one of the castle ruins), good shoes (ideally hiking shoes with good ankle support as a few of the paths are uneven and may be covered in leaves....)

Should you be interested to learn something about the geology and the earth history of the Neckar valley and Odenwald region, feel free to approach me on the hike.

I announced the hike in different outdoor groups of the region. You can register in any of these groups, but for organizational reasons (further info postings, e.g. for job ticket & car pooling, etc) the easiest would be if you do it in the "Heidelberg Outdoor Activity Group", following this link: Protected content

Looking forward to see you all on Sept 9th!

Cheers, Carsten
