TATTER is honored to present this special workshop as part of a larger celebration by Craftspring, honoring the life and work of Aidai Asangulova—her artistry, spirit, and dedication to preserving Kyrgyz traditional culture. Aidai was an extraordinary artist, designer, and cultural leader whose legacy continues to inspire.
Join felt designers Nurzhamal and Klara Asangulova from Kyrgyzstan for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of combining wool and silk to create a light, wearable felted scarf. Rooted in the nomadic tradition of Ala-Kiyiz (wet felting), participants will learn how to transform raw fibers into a unique textile using water, soap, and movement.
You will explore layering wool, creating patterns, and shaping texture while working with merino wool and hand-loomed Uzbek silk. This process celebrates the beauty, flexibility, and strength of natural fibers.
Open to all levels, this workshop honors Kyrgyz craftsmanship while inviting creativity and cultural connection.
