Zakir Hussain & Tal-Vadya -"An Amalgam of Rhythm on Indian Drums" India
“Tabla master Zakir Hussain, a living genius, whose unadulterated performances of Indian music are among the most thrilling anywhere...” (NY Times)
Zakir Hussain is considered one of the greatest musicians of our time. He invites us on a voyage through Indian music, with his fellow musicians, to the sound of the tabla, the sarangi and the miruthangam.
Zakir Hussain is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as one of the greatest musicians of our time. As a tabla virtuoso, who has an innate sense for improvisation, Hussain has worked with several leading international artists, including George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Henderson, Van Morrison and Billy Cobham leading to several unique and historic collaborations such as Shakti, with John McLaughlin and L. Shankar, Remember Shakti, Planet Drum with Mickey Hart, or Sangam with Charles Lloyd et Eric Harland. Hussain is accompanied on this occasion by his musicians – the tabla legend Navin Sharma, the virtuoso sarangi player Sabir Khan (the son of the legendary Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan) and the celebrated miruthangam player Anantha R. Krishnan. An invitation to a voyage through Indian music and its many ancestral treasures.
