Weekly Wednesday Regular Regatta - Sailing Season Opening
Let´s join and have a look as Spectator this traditional weekly Hamburg Sailing Event
The idea for this regatta series was brought to us by one of our members from Australia. Since Australia is often associated with kangaroos, the regatta he initiated received this unusual name. The Kangaroo Regatta is open to all monohull classes and uses the Yardstick handicap system. The unique aspect of the Kangaroo starting system is the predetermined course length and time, resulting in a fixed starting time for each individual boat.
Since Protected content , this regatta has been a weekly tradition at our Hamburg Sailing Club and on the Alster lake. At that time, the marsupial's name still had an "h" at the end, which was only dropped in the late Protected content . Since it has been a proper noun ever since, it has remained the "Kangaroo with an 'h'" regatta.
The Hamburg Sailing Club's internal Kangaroo Regatta system covers a wide range of boat classes – from the Teeny with a Yardstick rating of Protected content the International 14 Footer with a Yardstick rating of 88. It doesn't matter whether it's a large yacht or a dinghy. The main thing is that every boat can be classified according to the Yardstick system.
The number of participants speaks to the popularity of this event. Between 50 and Protected content take part in each race. The regatta series runs from the end of April to mid-September.
