📽️ Images of Tehran’s Walls
Writing on the city of Tehran. Writing on the walls, writing the city. Writing dreams, struggles, rages… Images of Tehran’s walls traverse history, becoming a window into the state of the city -who holds power, and who is represented.
Once a means of emancipation, dissemination, and communication during the revolution, the walls later became a medium for war propaganda, and eventually, consumerism.
The library will host this evening to attempt to understand power dynamics through the specific lens of this film: the control of the city and its connection to public space. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about the history and struggles in Tehran.
The film will be followed by a discussion period.
A word about the director:
Born in Protected content , Keywan Karimi is a filmmaker of Kurdish origin.
Because of his documentary *Writing on the City* Protected content , which focuses on graffiti on Tehran’s walls from the Protected content Revolution to the Protected content of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Karimi was arrested and placed in solitary confinement for two weeks in December Protected content . In October Protected content , he was sentenced to six years in prison and Protected content for "insulting Islamic sanctities.
The discussion at the library may take place in the presence of the director.
