Know more about "Guernica" - Pablo Picasso - 1937
Why Guernica has been painted and what is his legacy nowadays? There is no longer any need to present Picasso's "Guernica". But for those who would like to dive deeper into its history, you are kindly invited to discover its history from its origins until today.
Painted in Paris by Pablo Picasso for the Spanish Pavilion of the Protected content Exhibition, the painting "Guernica" is an evocation of the Spanish War and more particularly of the bombing of this Basque village of Biscay, on April 26th of the same year.
With Leonardo da Vinci's "The Mona Lisa", he is the most universally known painting. Symbol of the barbarism and injustices generated by the wars, its history is not simple, enamelled by the avatars of the civil war and the Franco period then, today by the relations of Madrid central power with the Basque autonomous government of Vitoria who also claims the painting for the martyred city.
Exiled at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for forty years, it is following many steps and negotiations that it is now visible in Madrid since Protected content , currently at the Reina Sofia Museum.
Our guide, Roberto, as a sociologist, will give us some keys to understand the Picasso's masterpiece. The meeting will start at 12:45 with an introduction given by Roberto into the courtyard of the Museum, close t A. Calder work. Entrance into the Reina Sofia museum will be at 13:00. More details for payments will be given in some days.
