When men dance from the hip, it is generally considered feminine.
Five dancers indulge in exactly this movement and experiment with gender attributes.
The theme of gender has always played a role in Nadia Beugré's work, but in «L'Homme rare» she takes a more direct approach by reversing the perception of «masculine/female attributes» and questioning the attention paid to bodies and the qualities attributed to their movements.
Starting from a game that blurs our perception of gender, the choreographer places the audience in the position of voyeurs, thus establishing a connection to the results of her research on our understanding of the body, especially the black and male, in history and present.
