Summer in Heiligenstadt
NOTE 25.08.: I’m aware of the fact that the weather forecast for sunday announces the possibility of rain. If there are just a few drops we can do the walk nevertheless, please remember to bring your umbrella or coat (in case it is really pouring cats and dogs we still can consider going directly to the museum).
In the 19th century, Heiligenstadt – today part of the district “Döbling” – was an independent municipality situated outside the city walls of Vienna. Well known for its hot water spring, Heiligenstadt was also a tourist spot especially during summer time.
Ludwig van Beethoven who stayed in Vienna from Protected content , lived in Heiligenstadt in Protected content , the year in which he wrote the "Heiligenstädter Testament" sharing his desperation due to his illness.
One of the houses Beethoven lived in, is situated in Probusgasse 6. Several months ago, the area has been renovated and is now a museum dedicated to this great musician. A few minutes away we find the “Beethovengang”, a path along a the little creek “Schreiberbach” where Beethoven liked to walk.
I suggest meeting up in order to follow the tracks of Beethoven in Heiligenstadt with a walk along the Beethovengang (about 30 min) and a visit of the museum.
After the visit, we can have a drink or little snack together in one of the Heurigen nearby (non-smoking-table).
