World Music: MULATU ASTATKE!!
Dear music lovers,
Join our fellow Consul Sandrine Alimeck to discover or rediscover MULATU ASTATKE "The King of Ethiopian Music".
Mulatu Astatke is one of Africa’s most significant musicians. He left his homeland when a teenager in order to be one of the first African students of music in London. New York and Boston. He was particularly influenced by Jazz and Latin-American rhythms. Back in Addis Ababa he combined these elements with traditional Ethiopian music and Afro-Funk and thus created a new musical style: Ethno-Jazz. With the military coup in Protected content , entertaining music was declared as undesired in Ethiopia and he disappeared from the scene. Yet since the prominent contribution to the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch’s film «Broken Flowers» Ethno-Jazz has been restored in the awareness of many music aficionados.
Looking forward to seeing you !
