How about attending to a traditional event which might be a subject even in Swiss Citizenship Exams/Interviews.

On the Sunday night after Ash Wednesday, the night before the Morgestraich in Basel city, we can see medieval town center of Liestal on fire.

The procession starts at 19:15, runs through the old town and ends at the Gestadeckplatz. After the whole city has been darkened, wooden brooms with the weights from 20 to Protected content are carried out through the city. As the real highlight, burning wooden carriages whose fires can get as high as the buildings around follow through. When the inferno is over and Liestal has once again defied the fire, spring can begin.

This parade is attended by thousands of spectators from Switzerland as well as from countries around the globe, closely packed on either side of a small street.

The Chienbäse in Liestal is an absolute must-visit especially if you have not experienced before. The darkness, the fire and the smoke smell create a very special atmosphere.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is strongly recommended to travel with older and badly flammable clothing. The Chienbäsen and the fire are partly so close to the audience. The Chienbäse is subject to strict fire regulations. The heat is strongest there. The road may not be crossed during the move.

WHERE & WHEN TO MEET:
The meeting location for this event is Basel SBB Train Station - Platform 17 at 18:20. The train we are planning to take is S3 Line to the direction of Olten and its departure time is 18:31.

NOTE:
-Even though the event is planned to be started at 19:15, depending on the meteorological conditions (especially with the wind), exact start time is decided at around 18:45.
-"Coffee to Go" is available in Bahnhof SBB for all coffee lovers.
