➤The penetration of the Egyptian cults in Rome was slow but decisive, favored by the process of religious syncretism that led to the identification of the main gods of the Egyptians, such as Iside and Osiride, with related Greek deities. Iside, identified first with Afrodite, and then with Artemis and Demeter, was often understood in Rome as a sorceress, capable of inspiring spells, especially amorous ones. Marcantonio dedicated a sanctuary to this goddess, the Iseo Campense, later destroyed by Tiberius (due to sexual violence against an esteemed matron inside the temple), rebuilt by Caligula and finally by Domiziano. We`ll see obelisks
