Medieval and Captivating: the Nikolausmarkt in Zons
During Saint-Nicholas Day and the second Advent of Protected content , the courtyards of the medieval castle Burg Friedestrom, in the southeast corner of Zons old town, will transform into a magical Christmas world.
In an area enclosed between imposant walls and a castle dating back to the 14th century, visitors can expect a colourful and atmospheric program with music, illuminated lodges and an incredible diversity of food delights – crêpes, Flammlachs (flamed salmon), Flammkuchen, grilled meat and other winter specialities. Apart from the classical mulled wine variations, hot gin will be offered to the more adventurous visitors. Besides, various traditional handicrafts, jewels, wooden and ceramic items, as well as chocolate, candies, honey and brandies will be presented by the different exhibitors.
One of the highlights of Zons' Nikolausmarkt is the Living Nativity, which has been a major part of the local Advent for more than 20 years, with a show featuring real animals.
Not only the Christmas market, but the old town itself is worth a visit and we can also take some time to explore the narrow streets, contemplate the picturesque stone houses and feel the medieval atmosphere.
