Citywalk Delft - Old and New City Extensions - 12 Km

From the new underground Delft train station that was opened in Protected content walk into the Westerkwartier that was the first city extension outside the old city walls dated from the Middle Ages. From Protected content and small houses were build for the many workers that flooded the city in the middle of the Industrial Revolution. As the place is favourite between students and engineers that just completed their study it survived the city renewal projects in the end of the last century.
We pass mill De Roos, the only mill left of the 15 that were found once on the city fortress ramparts.
The new Harnaschpolder district was build in a former horticultural area. On many bridges in the neighbourhood, as part of the 'Bridging' project, thematically texts related to the change have been applied to the bridge railings and benches. When we walk through the new neighbourhood we see different architecture and a local park.
After about 4 kilometers we will find a restaurant to have lunch.
This walk is described in the guide "wandelen buiten de binnenstad van Delft” published by Gegarandeerd Onregelmatig. Protected content
