Le Nouveau Réalisme and the Art of the 1960s in Mannheim
Dear art lover,
RADIKAL. REAL - Exhibition at the Kunsthalle Mannheim explores the radical artistic transformations of the Protected content through the lens of Nouveau Réalisme and its connections to Mannheim.
Emerging in postwar Europe, the movement challenged traditional art by incorporating everyday objects, industrial materials, and urban reality into artistic practice. Mannheim became an important site for these new ideas, reflecting the city's cultural dynamism and international outlook. Bringing together key works and archival materials, the exhibition highlights the dialogue between local developments and broader European artistic networks. The artists questioned consumer culture, mass production, and conventional definitions of art, turning ordinary objects into powerful statements. Their innovative approaches continue to resonate in today's world of environmental challenges, media saturation, and material excess.
RADIKAL. REAL. invites visitors to rediscover a movement that transformed the relationship between art and everyday life.
With works of: Arman, César, Yves Klein, Mimmo Rotella, Daniel Spoerri, Niki de Saint Phalle und Jacques de la Villeglé.
Looking forward to seeing you.
