Moving to the Netherlands (Amsterdam)

I'm gathering my paper work for my application to move to the Netherlands. A colleague of my boyfriend, told him I needed to get a birth certificate that is less than 6 months old. Is this valid? My birth certificate isn't ancient. I had it replaced 6 years ago. I'm from the United States, if that's helpful.
