Berlin tips?

Hi.
A very good friend of mine will be in Berlin for the next six months or so. I was hoping someone would be kind enough to recommend a good place to visit, to eat and hang around at night. Berlin is said to be “the” new European city with a special kind of flair. Where can you go to experience this special atmosphere? She is sort of desperate at the moment and would be glad about any advice...
