Intercultural chorus starting on February 20th (Bonn)

The fringe ensemble establishes an intercultural speaking chorus of citizens of Bonn (Bonner Bürgerchor)

The Bonn-based theatre company fringe ensemble is setting up an intercultural spoken language chorus (Bonner Bürgerchor) and currently looking for members of various origins and backgrounds. The idea is to develop a series of polyphonic and multilingual projects with a group of 20 to 25 people from 7 to 10 different nations who live in Bonn. The chorus will be led by Bettina Marugg, a member of fringe ensemble’s acting company, who has extensive experience in creating intercultural theatre projects. Rehearsals will take place regularly twice a month. The chorus will explore its members’ various sounds and languages, encountering their diversity with joy and curiosity. Protected content

Participants should be at least 18 years old; both long-established inhabitants or recent arrivals to in Bonn. Their mother tongue could be German or any other language. Extensive knowledge of German is absolutely not necessary, basic knowledge of English or German is sufficient. The concept for this intercultural chorus is to build a community which creates art and does not only accept our everyday life within a diverse society, but actively takes advantage of this diversity and uses it as a source for creativity. .

The first performance will be based on texts written by the chorus members about their life in Bonn. Therefore, they will have the opportunity to take part in a writing workshop lead by Bonn-based playwright Lothar Kittstein. The performance will be presented at fringe ensemble’s home base, Theater im Ballsaal, in the second half of the year.
