• Food, wine, and culture are the heart of it. Markets, cuisine, and art come up more than anything, alongside 81% rating culinary variety positively.

• Healthcare is world-class and affordable. 84% of expats in France rate healthcare affordability positively (vs. 61% globally) and 86% the quality of medical care.

• It's a launchpad for travel. 91% rate the opportunity to travel positively and 80% the availability of public transportation.

• The lifestyle and landscapes appeal. A milder climate, beautiful scenery, and an unhurried pace draw praise, with 87% rating the natural environment positively.

• Bureaucracy is the loudest complaint by far. Just 23% of expats in France find it easy to deal with local authorities, against 38% globally.

• The language is a real barrier. Only 24% find it easy to get by without French, and 36% find it easy to learn.

• Careers and the economy can disappoint. Only 47% say the move improved their career prospects and 36% rate the local job market positively.

• Some find the outlook insular. A few Canadians mention grey winters and a certain closedness or complaining culture.

For Canadians, France delivers on food, healthcare, culture, and easy travel across Europe. The trade-offs are the paperwork, the language, and a slower job market. If you value lifestyle over convenience, it's a rewarding place to settle.
