Questions about Grindelallee/Grindelhof (Hamburg)

Hi All -
I am new to Hamburg and this week I'll be looking at a few apartments in the Grindelhof/Grindelallee area. I can see that there are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area, but it is seems to be right next door to the university. Can anyone tell me if these areas have a very high student population? Is the neighborhood best suited for new college grads and the 20-something crowd? I like the idea of being in the city and close to the Alster, but I don't want to feel out of place and surrounded only by students.
