Making Friends without knowing alot of french ??? (Lyon)

Hi Everyone I wanted to ask this question as I have been told that If I do not learn any french it is very hard to make friends in France.
I am going to do a crash course in french before coming but I am worried that if I do not speak enough it will be harder for me to settle in can anyone give me some constructive advice on this please :)
