Lyon Expat Guide
Building a New Life in Lyon
Lyon is the second richest city in France and an important economic center. The main industries are consumer services, finance and business services, whilst biotechnology, software development, and IT are also growth industries. Real estate, retail, fashion and design, as well as tourism are also notable industries, with tourism attracting millions of visitors per year and generating significant amounts of income.
Away from the formalities of the business world, expats can enjoy the historic center of the city surrounded by architecture dating back to the 12th century. Culture lovers can explore museums and art galleries covering natural history, science and African culture, and then seek out Roman ruins of amphitheaters still remarkably intact. Parks and gardens provide peaceful places to relax, including the 117 hectare Parc de la Tête d'Or. The Lyon life wouldn't be complete without also tasting the famous Lyonnais cuisine and local wines from the Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône regions.
