What Is Living in Malmoe Like for Expats?

Located at the southern tip of Sweden, Malmoe is the country's third-largest city behind Stockholm and Gothenburg, and acts as the capital and economic center of the Skåne Region. It is also Sweden's primary land connection to mainland Europe, thanks to the Öresund Bridge to nearby Copenhagen. Travel between these two cities is quick, inexpensive and easy — attracting many expats who choose to live in Malmoe but work in Copenhagen, or vice versa. This integration has revitalized the city, with many major Swedish companies making their home here. Key industries include construction, services, and software development, with a high proportion of start-up companies sharing the marketplace with larger organizations such as Skanska and E.On Sverige. Perhaps due to its strong continental connections, Malmoe is also known as Sweden's most multicultural city, with sizeable Middle Eastern, Baltic, and Balkan communities adding a unique flavor to the area. Expats looking for a distinct Swedish flavor will also be well served by a stroll through Gamla Staden (Old Town), or a visit to one of the city's two principle museums.

InterNations is the largest global network for expatriates, with communities in 420 cities across the globe.
