Theatre in English: theatre must take a stand (Malmoe)

Dear all
Professional English theatre is back in Malmö and with a message.
Premiere 21 April (19:00 hrs)
SUNDAY IN SODOM

Playmate Theatre Malmö is performing for the first time since restrictions were lifted in Sweden. We have chosen a play that tackles the difficult subject of war and conflict, family and motherhood under threat, precisely because of the chaos that surrounds us in society right now. We have a director coming from the UK for this.

We have created a role for a Ukranian actress as part of the cast. Part of the proceeds will be donated to provide direct humanitarian support for the people of Ukraine.

It is a short powerful drama Protected content by one of Canada's most extraordinary young writers and we will be performing in English as the first half of an evening of theatre at Bastionen (our usual black box) followed after the interval by a performance by a Swedish theatre company Teater Dictat Den du är..

It is possible to buy a ticket to both plays (English & Ewedish) or just the English play SUNDAY IN SODOM.

The English play starts at 19:00 hrs.
The Swedish play starts after the interval at 20:30 hrs.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
SUNDAY IN SODOM by Jordan Tannahill
Directed by Matthew Short
21 – 27 April Protected content hrs

1 woman, 1 family, 1 moment in time…

A dynamic story of a mother’s attempt to keep tradition and family together, with a hint of Yiddish comic tradition. The longer she tries, the more unhinged life becomes.

Past and present mix on stage in a world Western audiences see far too often on the news; a world of drone strikes and war-torn communities.
Through it all, Edith is focused on answering her mobile phone and protecting her family – Lot, Sarah, Isaac and maybe even Abraham…

Hoping audiences will return to the theatre. Not only because we need to rebuild culture after the pandemic but because theatre, I believe, has a role in reflecting and channeling reality around us.
