Taipei Visit

My wife and I will have a first-time visit to Taipei arriving around July 25th and staying about a week. We're a professional, middle-aged couple involved in the cosmetics and fashion industries. I don't see any InterNations events scheduled, but any advice on a well located, good value hotel and generally a good area to hang out would be greatly appreciated. We like jazz music, natural foods, and treasure hunting in interesting shopping districts.
