Info needed about short term living in Switzerland (Zurich)

Hi,
I will be on a short term project in Switzerland from Sept-Dec, and will probably be living in either Burglen or Konstanz, Germany. I could really use some help in getting to know some aspects of living there, i.e. how to prepare for it, what to expect, what things to be careful about, weekend trips out, how to navigate public transportation cost effectively, etc.
I have traveled a bit around Europe, a dozen days in Nov-Dec in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium, so I am not completely unaware about Europe. But still any help on longer duration living would be really appreciated.
Also would love to meet new people and possibly find some travel buddies to explore the region.
