Where Would We Be without Salt?
...by the way, did you know the word *salary* comes from Latin word "salarium," which means "salt money"?
Back when the barter system was prominent, Roman soldiers were paid in salt. But where is this "white gold" coming from in Switzerland, a country without any direct sea access?
Let's discover together the salt mines in Bex, built in 15th century, where salt is still mined until today. An adventurous expedition into the heart of Swiss Alps will start at 2 p.m. at the train station of BEX If you come by train or car, you can come directly in the parking lot in front of the main entrance of the Protected content . Please be on time because the visit will start at 2:15 p.m. sharp, the entrance door will be closed afterwards, and a small train will take us inside a mine, so it will not be possible to join us later.
The visit will finish at 5 p.m. and we will have a drink in BEX in GIGA Tacos BAR 50 m from train station / I already reserved reserved a table for our group.:
I anticipate exploring this fascinating segment of the country's past with you, tucked away in the Swiss Alps.
