Hiking Around Beautiful Rochefort
Let's go out a bit further to explore the area and town of Rochefort. This 13km hike will start in the town and take us along the Lomme river up to a beautiful lookout point; then down past a couple of caves and a stone cross erected in Protected content . It will mainly be on hiking paths and a good amount will be forested.
Although this is not a difficult route, it is a hike, not a walk. There will be a total of 290m uphill, with a couple rather steep parts. Good fitness and hiking boots are required. As long as it is not raining a lot, we're going to hike! If it's been raining recently, parts can be muddy, so an extra pair of shoes is required, especially if you are riding in someone else's car.
Rochefort is approx 110km from Brussels - 1:15 hours drive. For those taking public transportation, it's about 2 hours by train from Central Station. Carpooling is encouraged, so if you are able to offer a ride, please let others know. There should be some parking near the starting point.
Bring water and your lunch for on the way. Afterward, we can have a drink in the center of Rochefort and you just might want to stay to enjoy this wonderful historic town!!
