old town underground caves
***Due to unforeseen circumnstances the event has
There is the chance to visit only the piazza Matteotti cave
of Marino town.
There are two sites of caves, the ones in piazza Matteotti and the ones under Palazzo Colonna.
At the beginning these caves where used to store the wine due to the costant and fresh temperature inside them.
During the second world war were used as air-raid shelter against the time to time heavy bombing of the town.
At the moment the one in piazza Matteotti contains a description of the geologic and volcanic aspect of the colli albani area;
the other one located under palazzo Colonna (more extended) contain some reconstruction of the use of them as shelter.
The visit is in italian language but I can translate .
To reach Marino is not difficult, there is a train line (roma termini/albano laziale), the train station is Marino.
Then you have to walk ten minutes up to the town.
There is atrein at 8,21 and at 9,00 from termini station.
After the visit if the weather is not bad and there is at least another car we can think to bring sandwich with us and go for a walk in the surrounding.
But first we see how many are interested and, based on the number, if there is an additional car available for transportation.
Feel free to ask more questions.
