Sophie reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father twenty years earlier, at a Turkish resort on the eve of his 31st birthday. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn't.
Aftersun is a film about belonging, aching loss, and making memories, and you will find yourself taking deep dives into personal pools of these elements, looking for your share of the sun.
The film received universal acclaim from critics, who praised Wells' direction and screenplay, and the performances of Mescal and Corio. It was also named one of the best films of Protected content the National Board of Review and was awarded top place by Sight and Sound on its poll for the best films of the year.
