Dans un village oublié du Val d’Aoste, région italienne à statut spécial située au nord-ouest du pays, les réalisateurs belges Charlotte Vandermeersch et de Félix Van Groningen s’appuie sur le roman de Paolo Cognetti pour donner chair aux paysages époustouflants de beauté où se situe l’histoire. L’intrigue est simple : Pietro est de la ville, Bruno est encore un des rares enfants à vivre et à travailler dans un village reculé des Alpes. Les deux gamins se rencontrent tout jeunes et installent dans cet écrin de verdure et de neige une amitié promise à l’éternité. « Les huit montagnes » mérite largement le prix ex æquo du jury qu’il a obtenu à Cannes.

Hi Mediterranean,
In a forgotten village in Aosta Valley, an Italian region with special status located in the northwest of the country, Belgian directors Charlotte Vandermeersch and Félix Van Groningen draw on Paolo Cognetti's novel to give a to the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes where is the story. The plot is simple: Pietro is from the city, Bruno is still one of the few children to live and work in a remote village in the Alps. The two kids meet very young and settle in this setting of greenery and snow a friendship promised to eternity. “The Eight Mountains” fully deserves the ex aequo jury prize it won at Cannes.
