New Date: Classical Music Meets Science Fiction @ Star Trek
Do join us, but keep in mind that the lecture will be in German! It´s going to be immersive with many examples, so B1 level should be more than OK.
Part of a series of 13 lectures, this instalment will have a special focus on Star Trek. Students tell me that there will be lots of audiovisual material to enjoy as well.
About the lectures:
"For a little over a hundred years, the term “science fiction” (...) has been established as a genre designation for stories revolving around scientific and technological speculation, space travel, the distant future, and unknown civilizations. The genre, which historically draws on much older precursors, encompasses more than just literary forms: due to its extensive branching into other media such as film, television, radio drama, computer games, or theme parks, it has proven to be one of the most influential pop culture movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. Based on this fact, the public lecture series discusses where and how changing ideas of science fiction and the associated discourses on science, technology, and society come into contact with music and musical practice. Using selected examples from the fields of music theater, moving image media, literature, popular and composed contemporary music, radio drama, performance, and sound art, Prof. Dr. Stefan Drees traces (...) which intellectual impulses from the science fiction genre are taken up and artistically processed in each case."
