Where Art and Cake Meet on a Wannsee Escape
Dear Adventure Seekers,
For our next event, I’d like to take you jwd — janz weit draußen, as Berliners say — to a corner of the city that feels like a world of its own: Wannsee.
We’ll visit the vernissage of the new exhibition on Philipp Franck, an often overlooked German Impressionist who lived in Wannsee as a full time resident for over four decades. Unlike many of his contemporaries who only summered in the villa colony, Franck lived year round between the old fishing village of Stolpe and the emerging villas of Colonie Alsen. His paintings chronicle, with a rare intimacy, the shift from village life to villa culture, the changing rhythms of work, water, gardens, and seasons – and the moods of the lakes and skies.
The exhibition brings together nearly 70 works, including many watercolours shown publicly for the first time, sourced from private collectors. It offers a deep, atmospheric look at a Wannsee that is both familiar and long vanished. The introduction to the exhibition and opening speech will be in German, but I shall be happy to translate if necessary.
After the vernissage, we’ll step into the Protected content
I look forward to exploring Wannsee’s skies, stories, and slices of cake with you.
Warmly,
Sujata
