Spontaneous Museum Visit
Let's brighten this cloudy Sunday up!
With "Queer Modernism. Protected content 1950," the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is presenting the first comprehensive exhibition in Europe to showcase the significant contribution of queer artists to modernism. With over Protected content paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, films, literature, and archival materials—by 34 international artists, the exhibition project focuses on the first half of the 20th century. It tells an alternative history of modernism, in which queer artists placed themes such as desire, gender and sexuality, as well as the politics of self-representation, at the centre of their work. It also tells stories of queer life in times of war and resistance. Featured artists include Claude Cahun, Hannah Höch, Jean Cocteau, Romaine Brooks, Marlow Moss and Richmond Barthé.
