Love Scamming - Podium Talk About Internet Fraud - in German

Please note. This will be an event in german language.
Romance scamming or love scamming is a modern form of internet fraud. Fraudsters use fake profiles to look for potential victims on online dating sites or social networks.
They present themselves as attractive and successful, shower their victims with compliments and show a keen interest in their lives. As the chat or email conversations are usually pleasant and the photos simulate an attractive single, many quickly gain trust or fall head over heels in love.
A face-to-face meeting never takes place, as the perpetrators use all kinds of excuses to prevent this. Instead, they ask for money transfers to supposedly help them out of an emergency or persuade their victims to do favors that later turn out to be illegal acts such as money laundering.
The "Münchner Blaulicht" Police Association will be providing information on this topic and has invited Barbara Ludwig and Cem Karakaya.
Barbara Ludwig is a writer and author of numerous crime novels, including the Mallorca crime novels, Tatort Oktoberfest and many others.
Cem Karakaya is a member of staff at the Munich Police Headquarters' Detective Unit 105. He is a specialist in the field of cybercrime and gives talks on the subject at schools and information events.
