Robert Cialdini is recognized as the world's foremost expert on the art of persuasion. In his Protected content "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion" he breaks it down into six principles, and the more of these elements you use, the more persuasive your point will be:
Reciprocity • Scarcity • Authority • Liking • Consistency • Social proof • and recently added a 7th: Unity
