Come to Celebrate Valborg in Helsingborg
Walburga, is one of Sweden's most beloved traditions and is celebrated on April 30th every year. But why do we do it? π₯
The celebration has its roots in the Middle Ages, when bonfires were lit to scare away evil spirits and protect both people and livestock. Along the way, a saint from England, Saint Walburga, got involved, and suddenly the celebration got both a saint's name and pagan elements.
Today, Walburga is a party for everyone, where people gather to sing spring songs, listen to speeches and celebrate spring that is finally here πΆπ·
Here in Helsingborg we often gather by the sea or in parks, around large bonfires, to welcome the light together and leave the darkness of winter behind us π
