The town of Étretat in Normandy, a former fishing village on the Atlantic coast, captivated many painters of the 19th century. Their works are now presented by Städel Museum.

Incuded are Protected content paintings, drawings, photographs, and historical documents from leading French, German and other international museums and private collections: 24 of them by Claude Monet, other by Eugène Delacroix, Gustave Courbet, Henri Matisse, also by Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, Eugène Le Poittevin, Camille Corot, Eugène Boudin and Elger Esser.
