Hello Beer Stammtisch,

the summer´25 comes again -> Johannifeuer in Aying!
---
"People have been worshipping the sun since the Stone Age. In the Middle Ages, the first solstice bonfires took place. They were used to keep demons and illnesses away.
For the ancient European tribal peoples, the days of the solstice were always high holidays. Their rhythm of life was characterised and determined by the sun and the respective seasons. The greater the difference between the cold winter and the warm summer, the more intensely this day was celebrated.
-
There is also a Christian origin. Jesus is referred to as the "sun" in Christianity. The winter solstice shortly before his birthday is therefore religiously characterised. According to the Bible, John the Baptist was born in mid-June, exactly six months before Jesus. As the summer solstice falls exactly at this time, the solstice bonfire is often referred to as St. John's bonfire."
