Exploring Xmas markets: Gengenbach
Is anyone up for a brand new edition of the "Xmas journeys around the Neckar"? This year the calendar is, unfortunately, not so favourable: our patron saint day is on Saturday, while St Mary is on Sunday. As taking 2 days off may not be easy, the idea is to have a 3-day journey, instead of the usual 4.
With 3 days (or even with 2, if you can't have Monday off) it's still possible to have a nice journey: shall we explore the Black Forest towns around Offenburg, i.e. Gengenbach, Hausach and the valley called Kinzigtal ( Protected content )?
The ingredients for another adventurous trip are there: there's the magic town hall with 24 windows, one of which opens up every day so as to reveal a surprise. There's a town completely made of half-timbered houses. There's the footprint of the devil's horse, symbolizing that evil is always lurking around the corner, and there's the pilgrimage trail with the panoramic St.Jakob's chapel, for those who have enough faith.
While waiting to draw a precise journey plan, trains can already be booked:
1) for going, there's either Milano 7:25-Basel for 25 euro (Trenitalia) or the Chiasso 8:55-Freiburg 19,90 euro ticket (courtesy of the always generous Bahn)
2) for coming back, Trenitalia is definitely more convenient (since we'll have trains for free till Basel, thanks to the hotel card), so recommended train would be
Basel Sbb (Ore: 17:31); Arrivo: Milano Centrale (Ore: 21:40) on December 9th
